Sunday 4/27/08 From Texas to New Mexico

We had a 25 hour day and we started early so we could go to the 8:20 service at Trinity Baptist Church, then packed and drove out of Amarillo.

Our first stop was at Cadillac Ranch. This is a display of 10 cars that were rooted into soil by eccentric millionaire Stanley Marsh in 1974. Whether one considers it artwork is left to one's own opinion.

Passing through the countryside we saw thousands of windmills to create electricity for the area. In Adrian we passed the halfway point on the Route 66 trail. We passed through many little towns some of which were buried under 140 as it was built across the country.

The route to Santa Fe had many towns with very old churches. This one is in Tecolate, NM and was built in 1840.

We picked up the Santa Fe Trail beginning in Romeroville and followed it to the end in the downtown square in the city of Santa Fe.

We stopped at the Pecos National Historic Park to see the ruins of the pueblo and mission church.

Glorieta is the home for "Glorieta Gettysburg of the West". This site pays homage to the victims of the battle of March 26, 1862, when the Union forces wiped out a Confederate supply train.

Tonight we are in Santa Fe where the capitol is the highest capitol building in the US at 7,000 elevation.
