End of Route 66

After a beautiful sunset and a cozy night in the WigWam Motel, we headed west for our final destination - the end of Route 66.

We traveled Foothills Dr for many miles through many California towns, one leading right into the other. In Fontana, we saw Bono's Historic Orange, perhaps the last of the orange stands that once lined California roads. Orange orchards have given way to city after city along with their strip malls. The area also once sported many vineyards.

We got a quick shot of Madonna of the Trail statue, depicting a pioneer rugged mother with children, one of 12 across the country honoring those sturdy women who had to listen to months of "How much longer?" and "When will we be there?" from the backseat of the covered wagon.

Today was graduation at Azusa Pacific University. We saw the Hollywood sign and traveled through Pasadena, Los Angeles, Hollywood and Beverly Hills into Santa Monica the end of the route. A detour near the Santa Monica Pier caused us a few tense moments, but we are finished with the Route 66 tour.

Tonight and tomorrow we will visit with friends Dale and Barb Mattis. Denny and Barb worked together at Uniform Color for several years. We also hope to go to the Crystal Cathedral.

So now the return trip...

Sid and Alma will be at our house Monday night on their way home. We can have the guest room ready for you any time after that. Think about it - a pretty time in Arkansas, except for a tornado now and then...

We are heading to the north, why I am not sure. We wanted to see my sister in Montana, but it looks cold up there. Show Sid and Alma our blog to see if it matches their trip.
