We finished our stay in Kingman, AZ with a tasty breakfast at Mr. D'z. Memorablia of Route 66 covers the walls. A museum across the street displays a dustbowl family and wall-sized quotes from The Grapes of Wrath and an old locomotive and a red caboose remember the old railroad days.
Heading out of town, we took the road to Oatman, hairpin turns and sheer drops make for indescrible beauty. Oatman itself is an old gold mining town; today it has turned into a tourist town. Commonly burros come into town, however today they all decided to stay in the hills. We have been here several times, but this is the first time there were no burros around. A gunfight is staged after a mock bank robbery.
Then we took a brief side trip to Lake Havasu City, Arizona to see Denny's niece and family. Tim, Laurie, Hannah and Jacob are dear to us so we try to see them as often as we can. Lake Havasu is famous for the London Bridge. The McCullough family, of chainsaw fame, transported the London Bridge from England and reconstructed it over a manmade channel that connected later to Lake Havasu. We will spend the evening with them and tomorrow will head into California.
